Obituary for Wallace Eugene Slusher

Wallace E. Slusher, age 81, of Salem, Va. went to be with the Lord and his late wife Lorene who passed away in August of 2018, on Monday, April 1, 2019. He was born on Thursday, November 4, 1937, to the late Thurman and Lula Slusher. Wallace was a lifelong resident of the Salem community. He worked for Wilson Trucking, and later owned and operated Spartan Motors. He enjoyed collecting antique cars. Mr. & Mrs. Slusher were members of CommUNITY Church. In addition to his wife, Lorene Farley Slusher, and his parents; he is preceded in death by a brother, Clinton Slusher; and numerous aunts.
He is survived by his son, Donald Slusher; daughter, Becky Slusher Wimmer and husband, Tim; grandchildren, Victoria Akers and husband, Adam, Katie Slusher, Amber Dame, and Kyle Dame; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Parker Akers, and Amelia Dame; brothers, Jerry Slusher and wife, Joyce, and Leon Slusher; one sister, Carolyn Conner and husband, Earl; sister-in-law, Judy Slusher; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Frank and Norma Francisco, and the rest of their church family at CommUNITY Church in Salem, Va., and Franz.
A funeral service to celebrate his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2019, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. with Pastor Dan Carawan and Pastor Tom McCracken officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, Va.
Friends may visit with the family from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at the funeral home.
