Obituary for Robert Matthew "Bob" Goodwin

Robert Matthew (Bob) Goodwin, 74, of Salem, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on Monday, November 11, 2019, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center.

He was born on February 25, 1945 in Hampton, Va. to the late Alfred David and Jane Elliott Goodwin.

Bob had been a wonderful teacher for 32 years and was loved by all his students. He was involved in numerous organizations including the SPCA, Big Brother, West End Center for Youth, the Roanoke Food Pantry, and especially Salem Presbyterian Church. Community outreach was very important to him. Bob was a very special person. Due to his kind and gracious nature, he was loved by everyone who knew him. He will be missed!

Preceding him in death was his brother, Jack Goodwin; and other numerous family members including aunts, uncles, and cousins.

His surviving family includes his loving wife of 45 years, Judy Goodwin of Salem, Va.; sister-in-law, Linda Ricker; brother-in-law, Jim Seay; niece, Carol Mahan and husband, Pete, all of Richmond, Va.; and very special friends including Sue Conner of Salem, Va.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the Salem Presbyterian Church with Rev. Janet Chisom officiating. A reception will immediately follow in Gresham Hall.
