Obituary for Louise Odess Bise Brewer
Louise Odess Bise Brewer departed this world on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Lewis-Gale Medical Center, at the age of 90.
She was born on May 2, 1928 in Wythe County, Va. She was a resident of Richfield Senior Living and Healthcare Community and was the last living member of her direct family.
Her late relatives are father, Thomas Haynes Bise; mother, Mary P. Sisk Bise Martin; and siblings, George J. Bise, Dora Edna Bise Mabe, Ina Mae Bise Haga, Harry Lincoln Bise, Henry Hughes (BB) Bise, Bud Bise, and Rose Aileen Bise Johnson Shaffer. She was the widow of David Green Brewer whom she married on August 15, 1948, and they celebrated 65 loving years together before David passed on January 30, 2014.
David and Louise had one daughter, Mary Alma Brewer Loritsch. She and her husband, Toby, birthed Louise’s two grandsons, Todd David and Michael Ryan and wife, Olivia Brooke. Also surviving are great-grandchildren, Maverick David, Bowden Lane, and Charleston Joan; several nieces including very special niece, Linda Haga Croy and her daughter Krista; and several nephews including Jim (Sandy) Haga.
After marriage, David and Louise moved to Flint, Mich. for David to attend the Ford school for auto mechanics. Louise maintained their house and raised they daughter. They later moved to Alexandria, Va. where they lived until David’s retirement in the 1980’s. Louise worked as a clerk at Drug Fair in Bradlee Shopping Center where she accumulated many citations and promotions for her work ethic. She had many friends, but one special one was Betty Ford. She loved getting cards from Betty when Gerald became President and they moved into the White House. When she and David retired in the mid 1980’s to Salem to be near their daughter and grandsons, she did some store work but mostly served her church, Calvary United Methodist Church, and helped her neighbors and daughter and spoiled her grandchildren.
Louise liked to read, square dance, travel, garden, and can her crops. She also enjoyed going to her grandson’s school, band, and sports events. She was an excellent cook, and family meant everything to her. She was a loving sister, wife, “Gran,” and mother who was devoted to her daughter. In her later years she stood by her husband who developed Alzheimer’s and then she developed age related dementia. She was in relatively good physical health with a happy personality even though she did not know family or much reality. She suffered a fractured hip on March 14, 2019, and was not able to recover from the trauma and surgery.
Louise will be buried by her husband at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the Providence United Methodist Church Cemetery in Fries, Va. There will be no visitation.
