Leslie Wade “Les” Reid, age 59, of Salem, Va. went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2019, in Salem. He was born on Wednesday, September 16, 1959, to Elsie Reid and the late William Reid. “Les” had a love for life; he was always up to do something, and always ready to have fun, known to so many as the jokester. He had over thirty years of service to R&T Painting, Inc.; he loved bluegrass music and playing his stand-up bass. He also enjoyed fishing, the Dallas Cowboys, and his favorite time was time spent with his family. “Les” was and still is a loving brother, son, and husband; in like fashion on Sunday morning “Les” was met in heaven by so many family members and friends, and coming from a family of musicians we’re sure that a pickin’ session was had when he arrived. In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Ollie Fore, and Gilmore and June Reid.
Those left to cherish his memory in addition to his mother include; his wife, Bonnie Reid; sister, Becky Showalter; brothers, Dalton Reid and his wife, Jackie, and David Reid; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, 2019, at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, Va. with Pastor Tim Gearhart officiating.
Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 p.m. until the service hour.
Special thanks to Good Samaritan Hospice, Salem Health and Rehab, and all the amazing nurses and doctors that took care of “Les” in the last few months.

I have too many wonderful memories of Les..I cant find enough good words to say about him..just wish I had known he was sick.

The Reid's were like my family. Mr. Reid stopped by my house daily just to say hello. Les and Dave were at my house most every day of the week and I watched Becky and Dalton who were teenagers grow into fine young adults. I still remember the first time Les brought Bonnie to my house for me to meet her..he actually wanted my opinion..Bonnnie and I became best of friends immediately..there are so many great memories..our travels to WVa to visit my Mom..visiting her Mom in Christiansburg..there are just too many wonderful times to mention..the door was always open at my little house on Elm Street..sometimes it would be so crowded in that little house..actually Les helped to install my kitchen ..and I also remember him buying Dallas the australian shep.after Buffy died..Les knew how heart broken I was over losing her he thought having a new puppy would take away some of the hurt..oh..such a aweet..kind hearted friend Les was. We loved getting together..listening to music..playing cards..and how they all loved playing their basketball and watching Dallas Cowboys on Sunday's. Bonnie..Dave..Becky..Dalton..and Elsie I am so very sorry of your loss. All of you are in my prayers and I ask God to embrace each of you in his comforting arms ..hold you tight..and give you peace. Sending my love to all of you.

To Elsie, David, Dalton, Becky, Bonnie and Family, I am sorry to learn of your loss of Les, it has been many years since I last saw any of you, an I never had the opportunity to meet you (Bonnie) but since you were married to Les I know you are a special person as he was too. I remember all of the good times that we all shared with all of you going to school with Lorrie over the years. Even though we all have gone our separate ways we never forget each other. May God be with all of you in the coming days and cherish all of your wonderful memories of Les, you will see him again in a much better place without pain and suffering. God Bless each of you.
