Obituary for Joyce Ann Slusher (Alley)

Joyce Ann Slusher, 78, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Friendship Health and Rehab in Roanoke, Va. She was born on April 30, 1941 in Franklin County, Va. To the late Charlie Woodrow Wilson Alley and Beula Dove Alley. Joyce was a faithful member of Faith Fellowship in Salem where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school and established and maintained the Easter Peanut Butter Egg Committee. Her love for her family was evident in how she cared for their wellbeing and home. Joyce was a loyal and dedicated wife, mother, and friend to many. She will be missed!

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Billy Wayne, Harold, and Darrel Alley; and a sister, Rebecca Alley.

Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her loving husband of 60 years, Jerry D. Slusher; sons, David Wayne Slusher of Lynchburg, Va., Kevin Slusher (Amy) of Fincastle, Va., and Stephen Slusher (Alecia) of Cartersville, Ga.; sisters, Shirley Hage of Roanoke, Va., Lois Pruitt (Barry) of Goodview, Va., and Nancy Shelburn (Aubrey) of Roanoke, Va.; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 26, 2019 from 6 until 8 p.m. at John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. Funeral services to honor Joyce’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at 11 am in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Connie Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem.
