James A. “Jimmy” DeHart, age 91, of Roanoke, Va. went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 4, 2019, at his home. He was born on Friday, October 7, 1927, to the late Thurman and Eula DeHart. Jimmy was a member of Ridgewood Baptist Church where he once taught children’s Sunday school. He retired from Rowe Furniture after 38 years of service. He enjoyed wildlife, feeding the birds, and buying and selling at flea markets with his beloved late wife, Pearl. Jimmy served his country in the United States Navy, he enjoyed telling stories about his Navy days and past experiences in life. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Thornhill DeHart; brothers and sisters-in-law, Red and Violet Tyree, Robert Koogler, and Hallie Lee and husband, Carl.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Nancy Taylor who was his primary caregiver, and her husband, Steve; son, Wayne DeHart and wife, Denise; grandchildren, DW Jennings, Christopher Wayne DeHart and special friend, Jamie, and Blake Louis DeHart and fiancé, Caitlyn Barnes; brother, Clarence DeHart; sister, Lois Koogler; special friend and caregiver, Anita Scott; furry friends, Little Man and Sugar Ann.
A graveside service for the family will take place at a later date at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, Va.
