Darlene H. Bishop, 84, of Salem, Va., passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2019 at Richfield Recovery and Care Center in Salem.
She was born on July 30, 1934 in Roanoke, Va. to the late Harry F. and Elsie Jarrett Hambrick. Her journey really began in 1951 when she escaped to South Carolina to elope with the love of her life. She was only 17, but their love was strong and it was evident in the 68 years they were married! By the age of 21, their family had increased to a party of five. Over the years she increased her knowledge and love as a seamstress and quilter, and certainly was not a stranger to the kitchen, as her cooking was amazing! She was an avid reader, and anyone that knew mom knew where they stood. She was well known to speak her mind and was quick on thought! Above all, mom will be remembered as a loving wife and mother, and certainly adored her grandchildren!
Family remaining to cherish her memory includes her husband, Donald R. Bishop; children, Stephanie B. Meador, Donald R. Bishop, Jr. and wife, Sharon, and Sharon B. Graves and husband, Bill; brother, Harry F. Hambrick, Jr; and five grandchildren, Cody and Molly Meador, Emmitt, Avery, and Andrea Graves.
As keeping with Mrs. Bishop’s wishes, all services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be contributed to the Alzheimer’s Association; 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
